HUMAN FIGURE SKETCHING WORKSHOP

The Department of Interior Design and Decoration (B.Sc. IDD), in collaboration with the Department of Visual Arts, organized a practical and insightful class activity titled “Anatomy: Human Figure Sketching Workshop” on 24th February 2025, held in Classroom 601 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The event was conducted under the banner of the Prism Club, aiming to bridge theoretical ergonomics with hands-on sketching applications. The session was led by Asst. Prof. Chandra Sekhar MB, a faculty member of the Department of Visual Arts, known for his expertise in figure drawing and visual representation. The workshop targeted first- and second-year students from both Interior Design and Visual Arts disciplines. The session began with an introduction to the relevance of the human figure in ergonomics and its application in the field of interior design. The resource person demonstrated basic anatomical proportions, posture alignments, and sketching techniques. Students were then guided to create live sketches focusing on real-time postures and human movements. Participants were highly engaged, producing individual sketches and exploring how body posture, balance, and proportion directly influence design solutions such as furniture layout and circulation planning. The activity concluded with an interactive feedback session, where students shared their drawings and discussed how their understanding of ergonomics improved through practical sketching. This workshop successfully enhanced the students' ability to conceptualize human-centric spaces, laying a solid foundation for ergonomic design in their future academic and professional projects.
