The Department of English, St. Francis College, organized a guest lecture on “The Role of Language and Literature in Shaping Identity” on 23rd October 2025 at the 6th Floor Seminar Hall. The session featured Dr. Gautam C, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and JICM, as the resource person. The event was coordinated by Ms. Manjula Deshpande. Dr. Gautam began the lecture by explaining how language shapes personal and cultural identity. He highlighted that literature reflects human experiences and provides a voice to diverse communities. Drawing examples from Dalit autobiographies and multilingual practices, he emphasized how marginalized groups use literature for self-expression and identity formation. Students actively participated and shared their perspectives on linguistic diversity. The session offered meaningful insights into the power of language and literature in shaping society and individual identity.
